Hawk Eye

I have been walking more than riding lately.  When it gets cold I prefer to walk more than ride.  Moving at a little slower pace allows me to see more.  I like taking my camera with me.

Well today I got the mother load of pictures.  I live very close to downtown.  I was amazed to see that this hawk had caught a pigeon and was having lunch.

John Heltsley is disgusting.

This cat disgusts me.   I think he should be charged with attempted murder.  I ride this road all the time, this story really makes me sick to my stomach.

He is "accused" of hitting a bicyclist intentionally with his car.

Here is his contact info.  In case you want to tell him what you think.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

I sure did not mean to be away for 8 months, but things happen.  I have had a couple of projects to work on and time has creeped away from me.

One of my favorite people in the world has started an Architecture firm here in Louisville and they are starting to get some work.  Here is a link to their website: part-studio.

Santa Claus came to town.

Well, I don't have any idea how I got from the naughty list to the nice list.  I do know how I got on the naughty list though. However we won't get into that.

Somehow I made it on to the nice list.   And the only reason I know this, is the new bicycle light I got from Santa. Proof Positive.

A  Cygolite Turbo Jet 740.

The features:

  • State-of-the-Art Cree XML LED Technology
  • 740 lumens of LED light output
  • 6 Lighting Modes
  • Ultra-Slim Li-Ion battery

  • Lightweight jet engine inspired headlight (90 g)
  • Integrated low battery indicator
  • Durable Weather-Tight Aluminum alloy headlight
  • Handlebar mount included

  • I have to say so far I am pretty impressed by this little light.  It puts out a serious amount of light for such a small package.

This is definitely a streamline lightweight light with a lot of kick.

I am also impressed with the quality of craft.  It has a well made feel to it. It doesn't feel chintzy.

Initially, I was a little concerned about the battery pack that comes with it.  I thought that it was going to be cumbersome and just a general pain in the neck.

I haven't done a whole lot of riding with it,  but it doesn't seem like it is going to be an issue.

The Velcro strap system they have seems to work well and it tucks away and becomes mostly inconspicuous.  Hopefully, in the near future I can get a bunch of riding done and give a little more in depth review.

    But my intial impressions are:
    Well made- good quality
Easy to us- easy to turn on and off and easy to mount.
A lot of power in a pretty small package- the light itself is tiny.  The battery pack is considerably bigger.

The only issue I really had was that there were not enough shims for the handle bar mount.  My bars are 22.2 and I couldn't get the mount to tighten up.  But that wasn't anything really.  A little handle bar tape and every thing was ready to roll.

    First Birthday

My blog is one year old today (12-19-2011).  A lot has happened in the last year.  Anyway, I thought you all might enjoy some cake.

    Fatality Map

I found this map over at Urban Velo.  This is one of the most interesting things I have seen.  So interesting I wanted to re-blog it.   This is a map of every fatality in the US involving an automobile.  The fatalities are pedestrian, cyclist, motorcycle, occupant and other from 2001 to 2009.

    Gutter Hugger

I have put some of my non bicycle photography and art on Blue Canvas.

My profile name there is Gutter Hugger.  For those who do not know, a gutter hugger is someone who rides their bike on the side of the road and hugs the gutter.  As opposed to taking up a lane.

Evidently it can also mean someone who drinks so much they end up puking in the gutter.  That wasn't really my intention.  Maybe, when I was much younger.

    Bike Porn

I recently did a photo shoot for one of the guys at the Bike Couriers Bike Shop.  Billy went to school at Yamaguchi's frame building school.

This is the bike he built.  He is moving back home and starting his own frame building business.  Lady Grace Cyclery.

    This bike is really nice.

If I come across some extra money I would like to get him to build me one.

    Solution

I think I have found a solution to my bent fork.  Thanks to John Grinder.   He has a sweet Handsome Cycles XOXO.  I have been searching all over for a fork and the whole time it was in My Blog List.

It isn't perfect.  Mine has more braze ons.

A new Handsome Cycles XOXO Replacement Fork 26" fork with an 1" threaded steerer tube.
